Standing Construct Yamaha Yamalube has signed Aleksandr Tonkov for the 2016 MX2 World Championship, replacing MXGP-bound Valentin Guillod on the YZ250F for next season.

While Guillod will remain with Yamaha on the 450, Tonkov transfers from Husqvarna for next season as Yamaha’s official MX2 title contender on the Standing Construct Yamaha Yamalube team.

“The last two seasons have been good for me, but not great, and I really feel a strong connection with Standing Construct Yamaha Yamalube and I believe it is where I need to be to go to the next level,” Tonkov said. I know it will not be easy at all to go for the top, but with such a strong crew behind me I do know I will be ready for the challenge.”

Tonkov was impressive this season, including taking the victory at Maggiora, however was ultimately sidelined with a shoulder injury sustained at the German round of the world championship.
