Team Motul Suzuki aiming to finish MX Season on a high

Team Motul Suzuki riders Kale Makeham and Egan Mastin conclude season.

Suzuki Australia press release:

Team Motul Suzuki riders Kale Makeham and Egan Mastin are currently on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland for the final round of the 2015 MX Nationals as the series comes to a conclusion in Coolum this Sunday the 30th of August.

This weekends event marks the second trip to the now traditional end of series venue for the Australian motocross championship, with riders also contesting round five of the MX Nationals on the black sand based track earlier this year.

For Makeham who is looking to round out his maiden season in the MX1 class on a high note, this weekends event will provide the 21 year old his first opportunity to race on a track that he has previously had some experience competing on at a national level aboard his Suzuki RM-Z450.

“I made the quick trip home after Toowoomba in order to get some riding in at home, but can’t wait to head jump back on a plane and head up to Coolum.” Makeham commented.

“I learned a heap at Coolum the first time around, so going back there again it is kind of like I am going back to a track for the second year.

“Racing the track at round five gave me a good feel for how to ride the track on a 450, so I am really looking forward to using that experience this weekend.”

Joining Makeham aboard a Team Motul Suzuki RM-Z450 for the second consecutive week will be 17 year old rookie Egan Mastin, as he once again fills in for the injured Matt Moss.

In just his first national race for 2015 and his first ever MX1 event last Sunday at Toowoomba, the New South Welshman impressed with two solid top ten moto results including a flying start in the opening race that had him at the pointy end of very strong field of riders.

Finishing the round in a very respectable 9th overall, Mastin quickly turned his attention to this weekends event and returning to a venue that holds some great memories for him.

“Last week was a great experience and I am looking forward to doing it all again this Sunday,” Mastin enthused. “I have continued running my same routine this week, but just focused on riding on Sand.

“I have some great memories from Coolum last year, but I know it is going to be tough out there. It is always rough and the track keeps you on your toes. I am excited to get out there again, it should be good.

Team Manager Jay Foreman was happy to see Mastin put in a strong early race performance last weekend at Toowoomba and is looking for both his riders to finish out the season in the best possible way.

“Mastin got off to a great start in the big bike class and was comfortably sitting in sixth ahead of the likes of Styke and Cooper before he had a off late in the race last week, it was a great sign from a young rider.” Foreman said.

“It was his first race aboard the Suzuki, it was his first weekend with the team, so things were always going to be a little bit tough for him, be he put in two good moto results that will give him some confidence for this weekend.

“For Makeham this weekend presents a great opportunity to return to a track that we have raced on earlier this year and a track he has some experience racing the 450 on.

“He will be able to head into the weekend knowing what to expect and will be aiming to better his result at the same track from earlier in the year.” Foreman concluded.

Catch Team Motul Suzuki at the 10th and final round of the 2015 MX Nationals where the series will come to a conclusion at Coolum on Sunday the 30th of August.
