The final round of the KTM Australia Amateur Cup was run and won in perfect conditions at Coolum today, with KTM rider Elias Dukes taking second for the day and wrapping up the 2015 Amateur Cup Championship.

Being the first bikes on the track for day one of the final round of the MX Nationals, the Amateur Cup riders had a tough task ahead of them, navigating the notoriously rough and sandy Coolum Pines circuit.

In the opening qualifying session it was Husqvarna-mounted Brad Polsoni who recorded the fastest lap time with a 1m49.061s, followed by KTM’s Elias Dukes in second, while Mathew Torrington secured third pick of the grid.

In moto one, KTM rider Aaron Parker took the first holeshot at round 10, before Kerrod Morrisy, Polsoni and Dukes commenced their battle for the race lead.

Depsite a small handful of passes for second and third across the 15-minute moto, the finishing order did not differ much from what they went out in.

Morrisy crossing the line in first position, ahead of Polsoni in second while series leader Dukes finished race one in third.

When riders lined up for race number two, Dukes looked to race for a 2015 KTM Amateur Cup title. Despite Polsoni taking the holeshot and getting to the early race lead, a small mistake saw Dukes inherit the race lead – one that he would not relinquish.

With Dukes out in front, race one winner Morrisy (Kawasaki) settled into second position, while Polsoni recovered to take third place.

At the conclusion of the round it was Morrissy who took the Coolum round win ahead of Dukes and Polsoni, however second place on the day was all that was required for Dukes to wrap up the 2015 KTM Australian Amateur Cup title.
