Superpole and MX2 round win for Pirelli riders at Toowoomba

MX Nationals success continues for Pirelli-equipped riders.

Pirelli Moto press release:

Pirelli riders took the MX1 Superpole, MX2 round victory, and holeshot awards as the highlights of the penultimate round of the MX Nationals at Toowoomba over the weekend.

Round nine of the ten round MX Nationals series for 2015, saw Pirelli riders prove the outstanding versatility of the Scorpion MX32 at this challenging layout. As the track hardened throughout the day with some sections remaining damp and tacky, the Scorpion MX32 remained a consistent and versatile race-winning tyre trusted by the top professional racers and privateers alike.

In the MX1 class Kawasaki rookie Dylan Long took the GoPro SuperPole win with a fastest lap of 1.50.8 on Scorpion MX32 90/100-21 front and 120/90-19 Scorpion MX32 rear, showing the pace of tyres straight off the shelf and available to all riders, who choose to race with Pirelli.

When races got underway Ben Townley (Honda) took the holeshot in both races with Scorpion MX32 and finished third overall with 2-5 finishes for the round, while Adam Monea (Kawasaki) had a strong round, finishing second overall with 4-2 results.

In the MX2 class, the championship will go down to the wire at the final round at Coolum in a weeks’ time, but current red plate holder Jay Wilson (Yamaha) asserted his positon with an overall round win at the tricky Toowoomba track. After qualifying fastest on Scorpion MX32 front 90/100-21 and 110/85-19 rear ahead of his championship rival Luke Clout (Yamaha) in second, Wilson took 3-1 results for the MX2 overall round win at Toowoomba.

Jay Wilson: “Tyre choice on the weekend was very important, and I have to say that the Pirelli tyres greatly contributed to my round win,” he said. “The track was tricky, because it had a lot of shiny and slippery areas, but it also had areas where the dirt was grippy and completely different – having a well rounded tyre like Pirelli made my job much easier. “Being part of a smaller privateer team means that every bit of support counts, so to be heading into Coolum with the championship lead, and guys like Pirelli in my corner gives me a lot more confidence.” In the MXD class, privateer rider Jayden Rykers took a moto win and 2nd for the round, while Raceline Suzuki mounted Jesse Madden rounded out the podium for Pirelli backed riders.

Don Nicholas – Product Manager Pirelli Moto: “We are very pleased to see the pace of Pirelli riders this weekend. Dylan Long in particular has impressed with Superpole after such a short time on the Kawasaki,” he said. “The fact that this is done on the same Scorpion MX32 available at your local motorcycle store, is a great example of the Pirelli philosophy ‘we race what we sell, we sell what we race’. “Congratulations also to Jay on his round win in the MX 2 class, and we look forward to Coolum and the chance to go racing on Scorpion MX Soft 410 once again.”

The teams and riders now head to the sands of Coolum next weekend for the final round of the championship.
