New Zealand’s 2015 Motocross of Nations team will feature former world champion Ben Townley, the Kiwi governing body has confirmed for the event at Ernee, France, on 26 September.

The retired Townley, who still races part-time in New Zealand and Australia for Honda, will team up with Honda’s current New Zealand MX1 champion Cody Cooper and Yamaha talent Kayne Lamont.

This year’s MXoN appearance will be a special one for the 30-year-old Townley, 10 years following his incredible performance against Ricky Carmichael at the same venue in 2005.

Townley and Cooper were part of NZ’s podium-finishing team alongside Josh Coppins in 2006 at Matterley Basin. Lamont has represented his country twice, in 2012 and 2013.

The Coolum round of this year’s Australian MX Nationals was Townley’s most recent major entry, winning the opening moto on his way to third overall.

Non-travelling reserves have also been announced, Micah McGoldrick and Hamish Harwood. Josiah Natzke, Mike and John Phillips were all unavailable, according to Motorcycling New Zealand.
