Team Motul Suzuki’s reigning two-time MX Nationals champion Matt Moss has revealed that a step back to his title-winning suspension settings came as a major benefit at Raymond Terrace’s sixth round on Sunday.

Moss has battled through a horror year in 2015, hit by injuries and unable to gel with the current RM-Z450 in the opening half of the season. But he was able to turn that form around on Sunday with Super Pole, a moto win and second overall, despite being out of championship contention.

The end of last season saw Moss at the top of his game on board the 2015 Suzuki RM-Z450 upon release in capturing a second-consecutive MX1 crown, confirming over the weekend that he has since reverted to suspension settings used at the final three outdoor rounds of 2014.

“I was making them change the bike pretty much every single weekend,” Moss explained. “It’s easy to blame something else, but I said ‘give me my suspension I ran last year and I’m going to go away for three weeks and get used to it’, and it showed. Last year’s bike was a championship-winning bike… everything wasn’t going right so I was blaming a lot of things and I turned it around this weekend.”

A rejuvenated Moss fronted at MX Central on Sunday following the mid-season break, which allowed him to fully recover from his injuries that saw him sit out Broadford and Murray Bridge, building a base fitness that he was lacking ahead of his initial comeback at Coolum.

“I’m really enjoying it – I’ve got a smile from ear-to-ear,” he said. “I’m enjoying practicing, cycling, mountain biking, running, swimming, everything. I’m really loving it and just want to ride my dirt bike and I’m having fun.”
