KTM’s Caleb Ward has made it three-straight MX2 overall wins at Raymond Terrace’s sixth round of the 2015 MX Nationals this afternoon.

Dylan Wills broke through for his first-career MX2 victory in moto one, withstanding immense pressure from Ward to lead the entire moto – the result coming down to the final section of turns on the last lap.

A mistake by Ward then enabled Wills to comfortably win by 10 seconds, from Ward and Jay Wilson in third in a strong performance this weekend under the watchful eye of Josh Coppins.

Taka Katsuya was fourth in the opening race, while Western Australian Dean Porter kept Luke Arbon at bay for fifth. Completing the top 10 was Luke Clout – who missed the sighting lap with bike problems – from Joel Wightman, Wade Hunter and Nathan Crawford.

Notable names outside the front places included Jed Beaton in 11th and Hamish Harwood down in 21st following an incident out of the gates.

Ward hit the front early and was unrivalled on his way to the second moto victory, resulting in his third-consecutive overall win on board the 250 SX-F.

Behind him Wilson rode to a comfortable second-place finish, which handed him second overall and the championship leader’s red plate to begin the second half of the season.

Rounding out the podium overall was moto one winner Wills, who was 13th after a troublesome run but managed to salvage his maiden overall podium.

Third in the moto was Jed Beaton, ahead of Serco Yamaha teammate Luke Clout, while Luke Arbon, a fast-starting Nick Sutherland, Joel Wightman, Matt Ryan, Geran Stapleton and Hamish Harwood completed the top 10 finishers.

It was a hard-fought race for Taka Katsuya after he had to work his way from the rear to 17th, while Nathan Crawford was a non-starter for moto two. A non-finisher following his strong first moto was Dean Porter, after he came together with Wills.

In the championship it’s Wilson who has now taken charge, holding down a five-point advantage over Clout, with Katsuya dropping a further 15 in arrears.
