Febvre takes MXGP points lead with German win

Ferris rebounds with solid sixth overall at Teutschenthal.

Yamaha’s Romain Febvre has raced to the overall win in the ninth round of the 2015 MXGP World Championship at Teutschenthal, Germany, in a pivotal weekend for the title chase.

The opening MXGP moto was won by French revelation Febvre, winner of the past two MXGPs, ahead of Team HRC duo Evgeny Bobryshev and Gautier Paulin.

Top of the Australians was Dean Ferris (Wilvo Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing) in position seven, while Todd Waters (Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing) recovered from an early clash with Antonio Cairoli (Red Bull KTM) for 16th. Cairoli was 11th.

Moto two was won by Paulin, with the podium this time filled by Febvre and Kevin Strijbos (Suzuki), while Australia’s Ferris and Waters were fifth and eighth respectively.

Overall the weekend belonged to Febvre, Paulin and Strijbos on the podium, as Ferris finished sixth and Waters was credited with 12th position.

In MX2 it was top qualifier Tim Gajser who claimed victory for Honda, from Valentin Guillod and world champion Jordi Tixier. Meanwhile, title favourite Jeffrey Herlings crashed out of contention.

Moto two of the MX2 class was taken out by Max Anstie ahead of Gajser and Jeremy Seewer, resulting in the overall round win for Gajser, joined on the podium by Anstie and Guillod.

FontaMXRacing Yamaha’s Kiara Fontanesi made it a perfect weekend with the Women’s victory in moto two on Sunday, from Livia Lancelot and Stephanie Laier on the overall rostrum. Maddison Brown ended up fifth, with Jess Moore 20th.
