Current MXGP World Championship leader Max Nagl has been forced out of his home round of the 2015 season this weekend at Teutschenthal, Germany, after injuring his ankle during Saturday’s heat race.

The Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing rider was involved in an incident at the beginning of the qualifying heat, immediately putting an end to his race and casting him into doubt for Sunday.

It was later confirmed that Nagl has fractured his ankle, taken to Halle Hospital where he underwent minor surgery. The extent of his recovery time is yet to be determined.

After racing to five moto victories to date this season, Nagl had a 30-point lead over reigning world champion Antonio Cairoli – himself carrying a severe wrist injury – and in-form French rookie a further eight points behind.
