After an ultra-successful round two off the MX Nationals at Appin, Sydney, that saw Yamaha teams win seven out of the eight races contested as well as all four class victories, again the same focus and energy will be required for round three of the championship as it hits the hills of Broadford in Victoria this weekend.

Two rounds into Australia’s most prestigious dirt bike championship sees Yamaha’s factory supported teams leading the MX2 (250cc) and MXD (under 19) championships and running second in the premier MX1 (450cc) division. This weekend will see the three main classes again competing as well as the opening round of the Australian Women’s championship and it promises to be a pivotal round in the points chase.

CDR Yamaha – MX1
Kade Mosig enters round three in good form and riding a wave of confidence after taking the round win at Appin just a fortnight ago. Mosig proved that he has the right combination of speed, fitness and race savvy to be a legitimate championship contender and knows that he will need another strong showing at Broadford.

“Round two went extremely well but as a team we moved on pretty fast and starting working on improving for the next round,” Mosig explains. “The top four or five guys have been pretty consistent so it’s important that we take the race wins when they present themselves but also ensure that every race counts and to keep being up the front even on our bad days.”

Daniel Reardon showed his comeback to racing is on track after a race win at Appin and now believes that will kick start his season, effective immediately. Reardon sits 10th in the points’ chase this is despite a mechanic issue at round one and it is deceptive of his speed and consistency with every other moto finish inside the top six.

“It was nice to get that race win just to prove to myself that I’m good enough to win races and I have been doing the right things. As I go to the start line for every race now, I know that I belong at the front and have done the work to get there, so I feel confident heading into this weekend at Broadford,” Reardon ends.

SERCO Yamaha – MX2
The Serco Yamaha team of Luke Clout and Jed Beaton have won a round each with Clout leading the championship and Beaton sitting nicely in third place. Both riders have got the speed and armed with the Yamaha YZ250F race weapon, the dynamic duo will take some beating as the championship moves forward.

Clout moved into the championship lead after his 2-1 performance at his home track in Appin and wants to keep the train on the track for round three.

“The weather this week around Sydney has been terrible and making it hard to do any riding or training so I loaded up the van and headed to Coonabarabran and got some great ride time out there. There is talk of some rain this weekend but no point in worrying about it, I just have to keep doing what I have been doing and the results will continue to come.”

Jed Beaton sits in third place after two rounds with a win in round one and a fourth place finish in round two. He had to overcome some poor starts at round two that left him well down the field but with some mid-week testing with the team, he feels this weekend will be an improvement over Appin.

“I felt I rode ok at Appin but I was just so far back at the start that I was never going to win the race. We worked on a few things during the week, both on the bike and my technique and I’m confident my starts will be much better this weekend,” Beaton said.

GYTR Yamaha – MXD
It’s all hands back on deck at GYTR Yamaha with Mitch Evans returning from the wrist injury that kept him sidelined at round two while championship leader, Wilson Todd, continues to improve his health and fitness after some pre- season injuries.

Todd Leads the championship after his round win at Appin and now sits 11 points clear of his nearest rival. He has now been able to get a riding and training routine back in place and feels he is on the way to being 100% fit again.

“The first two rounds were a challenge in that I couldn’t really ride and train during the week, I just had to race on the weekends but the last two weeks I have been able to do a bit of riding and increase my off bike training and I’m starting to feel better so I look forward to racing this weekend and hope to do well.”

Mitch Evans got the doctors all clear during the week to return to racing after missing round two. Evans was the fastest qualifier at round one but a fall while leading the opening moto resulted in a small fracture in his wrist.

“I was pretty close to being able to ride at Appin but we thought it was better to be safe than sorry so we gave it another two weeks. The wrist feels pretty good now and it’s only been four weeks off the bike so I won’t have lost too much fitness. This weekend will just be about getting through safely and then it’s back into it at round four.”

Women’s Championship
This week will see Australia’s best female riders in action as they have their opening round of the Australian Women’s Championship this weekend in conjunction with the MX Nationals. The championship is sponsored by Yamaha with YZ250F mounted Maddy Brown the current title holder after her win in 2014.
