My Way

Greatest moment of your career?

Probably coming second at two outdoor motos in 2009. I came second at both Southwick and Steel City – I was on a high after both of them.

Toughest race ever?

Probably the Brisbane Supercross three years ago. It was the muddiest race I’ve ever ridden and I struggled all day. It sucked!

Long-term goal?

To own a couple houses. I own one and I’m going to buy another one next year.

Favourite track?

Red Bud in the US; that Larocco’s Leap was so sick to hit on a 250F. In Australia Wannerooo is probably my favourite.

If you weren’t a racer, you would be?

If I didn’t race at all and started playing from the get-go, probably a footy player (League).

Arch-rival?

My brother Matt.

Greatest inspiration?

Moto fathers in general. They go through so much shit to get their kids to the track. My dad had four kids and three of us raced. It would’ve been hell for him.

Superstitions?

When I was young I won a race once without doing my helmet up properly, so I used to never click the helmet strap up and left it dangling. I don’t really have any superstitions any more, but I tend to my put left things on first. It’s more of a habit than a superstition.

Training methods?

I’m just doing my own thing now. I run ever day, go to the gym 3-4 times a week and ride about 4-5 days a week.

Goal for 2015?

Not get hurt in first six rounds of AMA Supercross, then come back here fit and strong by not having an off-season, and to then win. It’ll be my second year on the Kawasaki and I’m going to have Michael Marty as my mechanic, which I’m so pumped about. I felt like I should’ve won this year – I had the fastest laps at almost every round but I couldn’t put it together. Next year will be different.

Off the Wall

Best all-time moto DVD/video?

I love the Bar to Bar DVDs, especially the older ones with Carmichael, Stewart and Reed.

Non-bike related hobbies?

At the moment I go surfing a bit and have a round of golf when I can. I don’t do as much as I used to.

Do you read your pit board?

Yep, when the MX Nationals get it sorted and put the mechanics’ area in the right place, I try to read my pit board as much as I can.

What do you drive?

Dodge Ram.

Favourite magazine?

Stroke Magazine from back in the day. They were solely focused on motocross and had heaps of pics, which suited me as I don’t read [laughs].

What’s on the iPod?

I don’t have an iPod. I’ve never downloaded a song in my life. I just listen to the radio, pretty much. My favourite song at the moment is My Child by Swedish House Mafia.

Best thing about the MX Nationals?

The professionalism of the meeting and how well it’s run.

Who will win the 2015 AMA Supercross?

I hope Chad Reed does. I’ll back the Aussie, but I also like Davi Millsaps and Ken Roczen.

Tell us something we don’t know about you?

I’m pretty Christian. I pray before every race and will talk and pray with Dave Campbell on the phone before I go to the gate.

First and last

First bike?

A Pee-Wee 50.

First kiss?

I was probably about 10 or something. It was more of a lame peck on the cheek than an actual kiss.

First proper injury?

I broke my collarbone during the first race I was on an 85cc. I must’ve been about 11 I think.

First time you got in a fight?

I would’ve been at primary school. This guy, Jackson Daly punched me and I punched him back. We got broken up and I cried and got sent to the principal’s office.

Last movie you watched?

Let’s Be Cops. It’s pretty funny.

Last holiday?

I’ve never really had one! Every time I go away it’s always involve riding. In saying that my lifestyle as a professional racer is pretty good, or so people say [laughs].

Last big crash you had?

At the first race at Conondale this year me and Matt came together and I got the raw end of the stick. I got concussion and some bleeding on the brain – not many people know about that – so I had to take some time off from racing.

One or the Other

Two 30-minute motos or three 20-minute motos?

I like three 20-minute races for the crowd, especially on our tracks, which are so short compared to the US. 20-minute races are good enough for Australian tracks.

Monster, Red Bull or Rockstar?

Monster of course!

PC or Mac?

What’s that? A computer? I’ve never even owned a computer!

McDonalds or KFC?

KFC because of their popcorn chicken

Europe or USA?

USA.

Two-stroke or four-stroke?

I’ll stick to the four-stroke.

MX Nationals or supercross?

I love both, but if I really had to choose I’d go for supercross.

Blonde or brunette?

Blonde for sure.
