An updated 2015 Yamaha WR250F has been revealed by Yamaha overnight, heavily based on the current YZ250F that was first released for this year.

Featuring a forward facing inlet with a top-mounted airbox that feeds the fuel injection system, this innovative engine is derived from the title-winning YZ250F motocross bike that’s won championships in the United States and Australia.

Unveiled via European and US channels so far, the 2015 Yamaha WR250F is expected to be displayed by Yamaha Motor Australia at this weekend’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, which also includes Australian Supercross at Phillip Island.

The new WR250F now boasts for 2015 a bilateral beam frame, six-speed wide-ratio transmission, switch-free electric starter, plug in Power Tuner, centrally-located 7.5-litre fuel tank, top-mounted quickly-removable air filter and an 18-inch rear wheel. It’s fuel mapping and suspension settings are enduro-spec.

In addition to the WR250F unveil, Yamaha Motor USA has also released details on a brand new cross country model, the YZ250FX. A variation of the YZ250F and WR250F, the specifications sheet indicates electric start, a six-speed wide-ratio transmission, 18-inch rear wheel and engine mapping/suspension settings to specifically suit cross country competition.

It’s uncertain if such a model will make it to Australian shores, developed for the American-based Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) and Hare Scramble racing series.
