Australian Motocross Championship promoter Williams Event Management (WEM) is powering toward the 2015 MX Nationals and beyond after securing a 10-year contract extension with Motorcycling Australia (MA) to host the series.

The MX Nationals has become an internationally-recognised brand under the operation of WEM, producing a consistent professional motocross platform within Australia that continues to propel the country’s top talent onto the world stage.

“We have renewed our contract with MA with a five-plus-five option, so we’re here for at least another 10 years,” WEM general manager Kevin Williams revealed to MotoOnline.com.au.

“We’ve got some time now where we really want to button down; hence why we’re looking at the big investment into television now because if we can build it over the next three years there’s an opportunity to get a return on investment.”

Williams has outlined preliminary plans for next year’s championship in an exclusive with MotoOnline.com.au, confirming the base schedule and formats to be operated under in 2015.

“We will have 10 rounds again on the eastern seaboard: three in Victoria, three in New South Wales, three in Queensland and one in South Australia,” he added. “We’re looking at a few new venues, which will be announced shortly, and Conondale could still be an option.

“The formats next year will be a set schedule. We’re looking at a standardised format with two motos [per class] where each round will have the championship classes, as well as a support class. We’re looking at a number of different supporting options.

“The first motos of the day for MX1 and MX2 will be 30 minutes, while the MXD will be 20 minutes. The second motos will feature MX1 at 30 minutes, MX2 at 20 minutes and MXD at 20 again. An announcement on our broadcasting plans is due in November.”

Super Pole is due to remain in place for 2015 and awarding championship points, however there may be a minor refinement enabling the fastest rider from regular qualifying select if they are to complete their Super Pole lap first or last.

It was also confirmed today that two-strokes will remain inside the MX2 and MXD divisions under more standardised rulesets, providing direction on one of the sport’s most topical subjects.

It’s anticipated WEM will release the draft 2015 MX Nationals calendar as soon as next week, with a series of official statements to come throughout the closing months of the year as finalised.
