Team Australia’s Dean Ferris has been ruled out of the 2014 FIM Motocross of Nations after breaking his femur in the MXGP of Brazil at Trindade over the weekend.

Looking to build on his strong run of form from the four previous European rounds of the MXGP series, Red Bull Ice One Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Dean Ferris’ weekend ended abruptly in race two.

After qualifying sixth and then finishing in that same position during moto one on Sunday, Ferris’ weekend – and season – came to a crushing halt in moto two while racing inside the top five. He is now scheduled to undergo surgery.

“This is a very unfortunate end to our season,” said team manager Antti Pyrhönen. “Dean fell and broke his right femur in the second moto and will undergo surgery to fix the break. We will release an update on Dean’s condition following his surgery.”

The news is devastating for Ferris, who was due to represent Team Australia in Latvia at the end of this month in MX2 alongside Chad Reed (MX1) and Matt Moss (Open). Newly-crowned Australian champion Luke Clout had previously been named MX2 reserve.
