Reviewed: 2015 Troy Lee Designs SE racewear

Includes review of the 2015 Troy Lee Designs Air glove.

The Troy Lee Designs SE gear has spent many years being developed and perfected into the superior line it is today, with a heavy focus on three key features: performance, function and durability.

The combination of both perforated and heavy grade polyester, stretch material, and top grade leather, make this the perfect line of gear for everything from racing to adventure riding.

Constructed using a lightweight ventilated polyester mesh construction, the SE jersey is breathable and moves with your body thanks to the stretch polyester materials used.

The ventilated micro-mesh back section helps keep you cool and refreshed, while the gel printed tail keeps the jersey in place. A four-way stretch collar provides optimum comfort and sewn-in elbow pads provide added protection.

The SE pant is constructed using 900 denier polyester to provide long lasting durability. Velcro side cinch straps allow for up to five centimetres of waist expansion while a velcro/snap button front and YKK brand zipper ensure closure security.

Oversized cowhide leather is featured on the knee for maximum durability, added grip and heat protection. Double and triple stitching is also placed in critical stress points for maximum strength.

The SE pant features articulated two-way stretch rear knee and calf panel sections, while stretch in the front knee area is provided to accommodate various knee protection systems.

A sliding rear yoke stretch system allows the pants to stay in place while a full nylon mesh liner ensures optimum comfort. TPR logo patches on the thigh area also add protection and style.

Like all Troy Lee Designs products, the Air glove has been researched, designed and meticulously tested before making its way on to the hands of great athletes around the world.

The Air glove features a light and breathable Lycra spandex mesh body paired with a single layer perforated Clarino synthetic leather palm with silicone screen-printed graphics for added traction and improved grip.

Soft sonic-welded TPR graphics are featured on top of the hand with a breathable Airprene cuff with a Velcro backed TPR wrist closure keeping the glove secure.

Positives:
You can’t talk about Troy Lee Designs racewear without mentioning the graphics – they’re once again absolutely awesome on our 2015 SE Checker Blue gear. The combination of blue and fluro orange makes this outfit impossible to miss out at the track; it’s rad.

Once getting past the drooling stage, I was quick to notice the quality of the product. As expected, both the jersey and pant are very well made and showcase all of the features you would expect in the high-end motocross gear market.

The SE jersey is super lightweight, well ventilated and fits great. The neck and wrist cuffs are sized perfectly, and I also had plenty of room underneath the jersey to wear my Troy Lee Designs HW Shirt for added protection without compromising on looks.

As for the SE pant, it’s more of the same. The fit is great and the added adjustability in the waist is super handy for a more customised fit if need be. For me, the sizing was on point and I didn’t have to play with the waist adjustment once.

At first I was a bit worried about the velcro/button securing system on the waist, but after pounding out a heap of laps and also tearing through the bush in the SE racewear, I’m 100 percent sold on the system – it’s rock solid.

The stretch panels in the SE pant are placed perfectly and allow for unrestricted movement at all times, even with big bulky knee braces underneath. The comfort and unrestricted feel of the SE pant is a standout for me, they’re just that good.

In the glove department, the Troy Lee Designs Air glove is a big winner. I’m a huge fan of simplistic and minimal design when it comes to gloves and the Air is just that – simple. The single layer palm, vented material and minimal use of TPR logos makes for an comfortable and blister-free ride.

Negatives:
I really have nothing negative to say about the Troy Lee Designs SE racewear and Air glove. I’m a huge fan of the high performance, boldly designed and super comfortable product – I really do enjoy laying down laps in this gear.

Verdict:
Durable, comfortable, great looks, high performance – what else could you ask for in a set of motocross gear? If you’re after a fresh set of gear for the upcoming 2015 season, be sure to check out the Troy Lee Designs SE racewear.
