Motorcycling Australia (MA) has confirmed it is seeking a venue in the Geelong region to replace the troubled McAdam Park facility at Barrabool in Victoria.

New MA president Braxton Laine has named the McAdam Park saga as one of the major issues to be prioritised between him and recently-instated CEO Dale Gilson. It was confirmed earlier this year that McAdam Park will close at the end of 2015.

“What has transpired is in the past, so let’s focus on moving positively forward to resolve the issue,” Laine stated. “Dale and I have met with the Surf Coast Shire and other stakeholders in the first weeks of our tenure as president and CEO. We attended this meeting but we did not contribute, we only listened to what was said.

“Talks are occurring with Geelong Council in securing a piece of land in the Geelong area that will have a brand new facility built on it. The McAdam Park member clubs will be consulted regarding the design and construction of the facility.

“I have a good understanding of the issues which have transpired over time and Dale will be quickly brought up to speed so that we can all make informed decisions to ensure a sustainable future for motorcycle sport in the Geelong and Surf Coast Shire regions.”

MA, together with assistance from the Victorian State Government, the City of Greater Geelong and the Surf Coast Shire purchased McAdam Park in 2009, however it has since been controversially plagued by a bitter dispute with nearby residents. The area surrounding Avalon Airport has risen as a potential alternate.

The Sporting Motorcycle Club (SMCC), which has been based out of McAdam Park since 1962, also released a statement on the matter earlier this year as it strives to firm its future in the region. The Geelong Motorcycle Club (GMCC) has also been based at the McAdam Park venue since 2009.
