Kawasaki denies full size 2015 two-stroke production

No scheduled return for KX125 and KX250 two-stroke models.

Kawasaki Motors Australia has moved to dispel ongoing speculation that the brand will reintroduce full size two-strokes into its 2015 motocross range.

Unofficial computer-generated images of updated KX models have been circulated online in recent weeks, however it’s now been confirmed that the brand has no current plans to reintroduce the KX250 or KX125 models.

“It’s certainly been a hot topic; obviously there’s a place for two-strokes,” Kawasaki Motors Australia national sales and marketing manager Robert Walker told MotoOnline.com.au. “There were some rumours going around that even Kawasaki was bringing back two-strokes into the mix, but I can tell you categorically we’re not. That’s been discussed. People obviously took some comments out of context at some stage, but that’s all okay.”

With 250 two-strokes currently featuring in the MX2 category of the MX Nationals alongside the current 250Fs, Walker indicates the bikes could in fact be separated again in coming seasons.

“With the resurgence of two-strokes in that regard, well, maybe it’s a cost factor, maybe it’s an operational factor, we’re not too sure,” he continued. “The promoter and brands have all had some discussions and you’ll probably see a separation of the two-strokes in the 250s going forward.”

Kawasaki last released the KX125 and KX250 in Australia during 2008. It still produces the KX85, which was updated in 2014.
