TM Racing Australia’s Daniel McCoy will sit out the next three rounds of the Monster Energy MX Nationals after breaking his back in a training incident over the weekend.

The 29-year-old broke his L2 and L3 vertebrae, plus fractured his T12, in a crash at a private track on the Sunshine Coast on Sunday afternoon. His injuries will force him out of the Wonthaggi, Murray Bridge and Wanneroo rounds of the series.

“It was late Sunday afternoon at a private track on the Sunshine Coast testing,” McCoy explained. “It’s going to be about six weeks recovery, so I expect to be back for Swan Hill. There’s no displacement, so it’s a matter of basically resting from here. It’s really disappointing because I’ve got the TM going the way I want it and felt as though we were making some good progress over the past week.”

The Swan Hill round of the MX Nationals will take place following the annual mid-season break on 29 June.
