Rutledge extends WMX GP series lead on Saturday in Italy

Frossard on MXGP pole, Guillod tops MX2 qualifying heat.

Australia’s Meghan Rutledge has extended her lead in the 2014 FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship during round four of the MXGP series in Trentino, Italy, on Saturday.

Red plate holder Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Rutledge nailed her second holeshot of the season and went on to win ahead of the 2008 FIM Women’s Motocross World Champion Livia Lancelot and reigning WMX World Champion Chiara Fontanesi.

Meanwhile, roaring Italians watched on as Monster Energy Kawasaki Factory Racing Team’s Steven Frossard made a statement when he pulled the holeshot and led every lap from start to finish to run away with MXGP’s qualifying heat win from world champion Antonio Cairoli and Clement Desalle.

In MX2 it was the rise of a dark horse with last years European champion Standing Construct KTM’s Valentin Guillod putting in a awe-inspiring ride to take home his first ever MX2 pole position. he won the qualifier over Romain Febvre and Jeffrey Herlings.

Of the Aussies, Todd Waters rode his Husqvarna to 18th in MXGP qualifying, while KEMEA Yamaha’s Luke Styke claimed 14th in the MX2 heat.
