KTM Motocross Racing Team rider Kirk Gibbs has claimed the GoPro Super Pole at Appin’s second round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals this morning.

Despite the ongoing threat of rain in the region, track conditions were relatively dry throughout the sessions, forming multiple loamy lines in the early stages of the round.

Gibbs posted a 1m42.628 in the one-lap session, topping Jake Moss (NPS Monster Energy Kawasaki) and series leader Matt Moss (Team Motul Suzuki).

Matt Moss topped the regular qualifying session despite a heavy crash during practice, which also saw Adam Monea (NPS Monster Energy Kawasaki) go down early in proceedings.

Four-time champion Jay Marmont (CDR Yamaha) made a welcome return to the top five for his first Super Pole slot of the season, improving to fourth over Monea.

Topping the MX2 timesheets was Queensland returnee Brenden Harrison (Instant Security KTM) from rookie Kiwi MXD champion Hamish Harwood (CMR Red Bull KTM) and Luke Clout (Serco Yamaha) on the first of the four-strokes.

Series leader Kayne Lamont (Red Bull WIL Husqvarna) was fifth behind Yamaha YZ250-mounted privateer Errol Willis – another to make his fulltime comeback in 2014.

GYTR Yamaha’s Wilson Todd was fastest of the MXD runners, over a second clear of Husqvarna duo Egan Mastin and Nathan Crawford. Red plate holder Jed Beaton (GYTR Yamaha) was fourth.
