Fan Guide: 2013 MX Nationals Rd10 Coolum

The title race remains open as the Monster Energy MX Nationals conclude on the Sunshine Coast.

After a long and hard-fought season, the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals will come to a close at the series’ traditional season finale at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast.

The focus in the MX1 class is on the battle between Motul Pirelli Suzuki’s Matt Moss and Motorex KTM’s Todd Waters. Between them, the duo have shared seven of the available nine round wins, so it’s fitting that they will go head-to-head one last time for the title.

Moss has the momentum of a round win at Toowoomba, but Waters, although slowed by an injury early on, has been consistent. Just 25 points separate the pair, and with a maximum of 75 points up for grabs, including the GoPro Super Pole bonus, the title is not decided just yet.

It’s an important event to determine the final placings for the remainder of the field, and a chance for riders to climb a rung or two of the championship ladder if the opportunity presents it.

With the MX2 title wrapped up, we’ll see Serco Yamaha’s Luke Styke running in both the MX2 and MX1 classes this round. The opportunity on the YZ450F has been handed to Styke as a reward for his dominant title, and without any pressure, expect to see him troubling the class frontrunners.

Behind Styke the race is still on for second in the class, with Kale Makeham leading from Brock Winston.

The MXD ranks also remain open. It’s Hamish Harwood who has the points lead heading into the class’ eighth clash of the season, but Jay Wilson has form on his side and is sure to offer opposition, as will Jack Simpson who is right in the mix.

Coolum’s bumper two-day schedule includes a host of support events, making for a big weekend. With sunny skies predicted, it should be another top end to the season on the Sunshine Coast.

MotoOnline.com.au will compile an official pre-race Fan Guide ahead of every round in 2013.
