Rewind: Reed's 2011 outdoor season

In this edition of Rewind we take a look back at Chad Reed's stellar start to the 2011 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.

Currently sitting 19th overall in the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, Australia’s Chad Reed is facing an up-hill battle as he struggles with health issues unknown to the general public.

Three rounds in to the 12-round championship, Reed is yet to finish inside the top 10 overall and has made it clear that he is having a hard time pushing through his situation.

In this edition of Rewind we are taking a look back to 2011, when Reed was on top of his game and stringing together multiple wins. Unfortunately his Motocross season went south after his famous Millville mid-air eject, but up until that point the Aussie was the man to beat.

Reed launched his very own TwoTwo Motorsports outfit back at the beginning of that 2011 season with minimal support compared to his usual factory rides throughout his career.

Honda-mounted for the first time in his career, Reed entered the 2011 US Supercross series with many people doubting the multi-time champion. But the he put together an impressive season, finishing a close second overall, carrying that momentum into the outdoors.

Reed hit the Hangtown season opener with a bang, taking the overall win and cementing himself as a serious title threat for the 2011 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship 450 Class title.

To assure his critics that his Hangtown win was no fluke, Reed went on to earn the Freestone round two win and a solid third at Mt. Morris’ round three, which is where the current 2013 series sits as of now three rounds in.

Reed was on top of his game, taking yet another overall win at the following Budds Creek’s round four and was beginning to stretch his championship lead over the stacked field which included current 2013 series leader Ryan Villopoto.

Chad Reed's early season Motocross form in 2011 was the complete opposite of his current 2013 situation.
