Williams Event Management has revealed via social networking that the Monster Energy MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, will officially return to traditional moto formats in 2013.

A survey of competitors and industry insiders revealed a 60 percent vote for the two-moto format’s return and, along with this format change, events will revert to single day structures next year – a factor that will prove to benefit privateers greatly.

WEM’s Kevin Williams told MotoOnline.com.au this morning that with the two-moto format change, they will also be able to include four classes at most rounds of the series.

“After surveying the competitors last year, 60 percent said they would prefer the two-moto format,” said Williams. “Although I’ve been a strong believer in that the championship has certainly been alive with the three-moto format.

“One of the other things that came up in our competitor/industry survey was that they preferred to have a one-day event, rather than a two-day event. Just the amount of time away from work for privateers, travelling time, taking time off of work.

“With that in mind, we looked at the schedule and went okay, this is the only way we can add an extra class, which is part of what the industry wanted to see and why we went to two motos.”

Williams believes this one-day, two-moto format will give more riders the chance to experience national championship events, whereas in the past it was not possible.

“The fact that we were reducing from two days to one day, we wanted to fit in an additional class to give more people the opportunity to experience the national championship events,” he added.

“So putting all those things in together, to achieve as many of the outcomes that the consumer, the sponsor and the fans want, we have elected to go back to that format so that we can run at most rounds, four classes.

“Also we will be giving the opportunity for the other classes to participate in the championship without adding the additional costs to privateers of a two-day event.”

The Monster Energy MX Nationals will commence on 14 April at Raymond Terrace in New South Wales, scheduled to span 10 rounds once again in 2013.
