Fast Thoughts: Kade Mosig

Monster Energy Kawasaki's Lites contender sounds off with MotoOnline.com.au.

After a disappointing season by his high standards, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Kade Mosig is focused on the upcoming supercross season. MotoOnline.com.au sat down with the 22-year-old and gave him a penny for his thoughts. Actually, we gave him sweet FA, but he was still happy to chat.

The 2012 MX Nationals…
All in all was a good season and it was one step better than I did last year, but Monster Energy Kawasaki hired me to win and I really wanted to and had that mindset every weekend. After last year I knew I could win motos, and I wanted to win a championship this year. We tried all season and I don’t think our results relflect just how hard we worked all season. At Coolum I finished the season on the podium, which was good. I would’ve obviously liked to have finished on the top step, but I’m going to take the positives out of it, and use it as more motivation and drive to work harder for next year.

The break between championships…
I’ve gone straight into supercross training as soon as the motocross finished. I went out to the Kawasaki workshop in Toowoomba last Monday and did some testing, and we should have the 2013 models finished this week. I can’t wait to use the new KX250Fs for supercross. The bike is a massive improvement and I’m really excited to get on the thing and see what I can do with it.

Freeriding at Schuie’s…
Going out there last weekend was like a dream come true for me. It’s not often you get to go out and hit jumps all day and when I had the opportunity I was like ‘yep, bang, I’m there’. I’ve been dreaming about going out there years, I’ve seen all the footage and photos, and it was a bit daunting at the start, but once I got the hang of it I had a ball. It’s good to just break things up from pounding laps out at the track. And just throwing a few whips out off the freestyle ramps and the 110ft dirt hit.

Aims for supercross…
I’m not going to leave anything on the table and I’m not going out there to race for second. I want to win. I want a championship, which is what I’ve been working towards for a fair few years now, so it’s up to me to make it happen. I haven’t won a championship since I was in juniors, so it’s been a long time coming. I came close in 2008 and I won a supercross main event when I was 16 so I know I can do it. The series is only four rounds, so it’s crucial to be inside the top three at every race.

Silly season…
The silly season has started and there’s a lot of talk going around. At this stage I’m happy with the team and bike and we’ve made so much progress. It’s a good team and we’ve worked hard to get to where we are now, and I’d love to carry that on into 2013. I’m unsure at this stage what’s happening, but my ideal goal would be to remain at Monster Energy Kawasaki. I’ve had a different team and a different bike for the past five years, so I’d like to back a season up on the same set-up and see what I can do.
