Any ideas as to what can be done to increase the spectator numbers for the MX season this year?

Better promotion in the mainstream media before events, up to a 2 hour driving distance from the events. A results sign at some point around the track if not a couple, or where possible a live net feed of the times like AMA SX. ( I know it's a big ask but you have to aim high.) I read on here that the 30min + 2 moto might be back, at least 1 per event for the Pro classes. I believe we need the longer moto's to show case the fitness of the riders and for me there is nothing like watching a front runner carve their way to the front & watch the mid-moto battles that develop with the longer races. Internal track access where possible, I know some venues this isn't possible Lakes , Raymond Terrace, but the Bellbird track at Appin for 1. OK that's my 2 cents worth.

Agree with you Ashman. Live timing allows people to follow all rounds and therefore more likely to attend local round. Definitely needs better promotion with maybe some prizes / giveaways. Also they need to hire/purchase a decent sound system that they can take to each round. Havent been to an event yet where you can clearly hear announcers. And motoonline need to have a tent where we can all catch up.

The Macarthur club is looking into putting in some infield spectator area for 2012, The clubs can only afford to spend so much on advertising we need to find a way to attract people that want a day out with the family not just the die hards. As for the PA we are going to transmit the announcer through a FM transmitter as most mobile phone have a radio they will be able to tune in .

That's awesome news about the infield spectator area & the FM transmission @Appin MDMCS1. Advertising should be the responsibility o the promoter WEM. That's what they are there for! The clubs provide the infrastructure eg the track, & parking maybe the marshals. The promoters role is to promote the event and provide specialty infustructure such as PA's and timing and results to the public.

Sounds great. That should be an improvement provided people know that they can do that.
It would be great if there could be more variety with food this year. Is that being looked at. I know the club is trying to make some $$$ which is totally understandable but extra variety would be great. Pizza? Kebabs? Salad rolls?

Nice too hear that MX Nationals have a new outside the industry sponsor. Congrats to WEM team for the achievement. Just hope many more can be lured into the world of MX

That will be awesome if you can get fans on the infield. I just did an interview with Ben Townley the other day for a magazine and he said that's one thing that's lacking in Australia from what he's seen compared to the U.S. and Europe.

Also, we should definitely look to get some pre-race gatherings or something during 2012 for a bit of fun! Good idea Pieman.

This deal with TAG should be great for fans at home who can't make events. World class live timing from what I hear! Will go good with MotoOnline's content ;-)

MotoOnline.com.au finally has signatures! Contact me if you have any troubles with the site.

I havn't seen the schedule yet, but I assume the Nationals aren't coming down to Tassie again? Which is really sad, because after being in and out of the dirtbike scene for many years, I can't remember there being such a huge interest in all things dirtbike like there is now down here. I know it costs a heap, but surely there must be a way? There would be big numbers right there.
