I think he'll do good. This is his chance to really turn around his career I reckon.

Also, he's confirmed he plans to race 'everything' next year...

I wonder if the Yamaha is as bad as they say!? if the Yamaha 450 is as bad as other racers have been saying in the states, you wouldnt think JS would sign for 3 years, right?
I know that with that team they would have a lot of different options for him and they could develop the bike more than the other yamaha teams.. so maybe its not an issue.
could this end up being like Rossi and Ducati this year?

Last year JGR used Showa forks in house built custom rear shocks & Pirelli tyres. So you would have to think the bike would be the same but very different. Plus you would have to think that JS7 had a good working relationship with Jeremy Albretch.
As for Rossi & Ducati, I think next year will be much better for them. Ducati always seem to start strong and then fade with their motogp projects look at the 1st 1000 motogp bikes they where on the pace the 1st 800's they were the bench mark.

Josh Coppins did a podcast with Matthes where he said the new YZF needed quite a bit of input and was almost too powerful for the handling without plenty of work. Really interesting.
Word was that JS7 really liked the JGR bike and it was way different to the L&M bike. If he could win on the L&M bike (he did win some races this year), then he should win on the JGR bike.
Plus I dont think the Gibbs family takes no for an answer and blaming the tools wont cut it either.
