Australia to farewell one of motocross' leading lights
MX great Paul Broomfield passed away early this morning from a form of blood cell anaemia.
Broomy had a bone barrow transplant recently that unfortunately was not successful. As a result he was put on life support yesterday before succumbing to the disease overnight.
The funeral will be held at 12:15pm on Monday, April 18, at the Macquarie Park Crematorium on Plassey Rd, North Ryde, NSW. It will take place at the Palm Chapel.
The Broomfield family wants to celebrate his life, and therefore requests attendees turn up in riding jerseys, team shirts, etc to brighten up the day. Dress is strictly race spec!
Very sad indeed! May he ride with the Angels above............
I just left this message on the Vale Paul Broomfield page;
I was lucky enough to know Broomy from as far back as 1997. I am a tv cameraman, and had worked with him many times, and had also known him socially. This is a sad day, Broomy really was a great bloke and he will be missed.
Broomy was a dead set funny bloke who knew his stuff as well. Was a very loyal friend also.
He had the best laugh, haven't heard one quite like it ever since.
Please visit my facebook page; R.I.P Paul Broomfield, and have a look around, or add photos if you have any.
I didnt Know Paul all that well, I do remember him as a little tacker in a small mining town Called Goldsworthy, I used to go to the track to watch my Uncle Race, and there was this young bloke ( Paul ) havin a red hot go, his dad would follow him around on his bike in case he fell off. Over the years My Brother and I kept track of Pauls progress as a pro racer and were lucky enough to see him race at Manjimup one year.
I know in some small part Paul has Inspired my brother to ride MX bikes which is now being passed on to his young boys, who I know will grow up knowing about Paul Broomfield.
To Pauls family,
My deepest sympathies to you all, His time on Earth was way too short but by seeing the response of his passing "He will be remembered"
I remember as a little girl when Mum and Dad still had the Witch Cycles Suziki and we use to go to the moto x at Manjimup, Byford and Bunbury I would always see you around helping out!! great coach!! You will be dearly miss!! RIP Broomy!!!
