I was just watching the news on Seven and saw they're claiming the Super X caused $500,000 worth of damage to the turf at Energy Australia Stadium.
Apparently it's caused a soccer game to be cancelled this weekend and puts David Beckam's trip to Australia next month with the LA Galaxy in jeapordy since they were supposed to play at EAS.
I also saw this in a Newcastle newspaper story:
Asked if the Knights would seek compensation from Super X promoters Global Action Sports, Burraston said: "We will be pursuing them, no question, but in the interim, this is not something we expected . . . We're apologetic to the Jets and the FFA and we will take every action we can to repair the ground as quickly as possible and to help them in whatever way we can." A spokeswoman for Global Action Sports declined to comment.

Here's the full story from the Newcastle Herald:

Now I don't know the full story or just how bad Super X supposedly left the stadium, however those kinds of reports can't be good for the series and securing major sports grounds in the future.

I would love to see a before and after shot of the ground surface..............But either way mine and your tax dollars go into football stadiums, so why the hell cant we use them. rock concerts and wet weather football damages them too. the problem sounds like more of a timing issue ie. to many sports in too short a time.............and if the Jets fold in a year or two (agian) they'l be begging Super X to come back........

Yeh I heard the same thing on Central Coast radio this morning. I know after supercross had been at Central Coast staduim it took over a month for the surface to come back (I drive past it everyday on my way to work) If all this goes the way they r talking. Thats the last time SuperX will b there.

I dunno why we haven't entered the 21st century and started to use synthetic turf for our football stadiums. They rock in the USA for NFL, they use them in hockey, why not for soccer, AFL & NRL in Australia?

I reckon synthetic grass is good, it's not like soccer players are always on the ground, but yet they are all butches and seem to be crying on it all the time. Our sport might have to go
Back to showgrounds soon as the
Future is not looking to bright .lets face it, more people like crappy soccer in australia than motocross. You get a 15 thou to a local a league game but yet struggle to get that for a Australian championship sx series? I live and breathe this sport but unless we get rid of these dickheads in council etc it's not looking to good

Unfortunatley soccer is the biggest sport in the world, MX & SX is tiny compared to it. Not to say I support it but for our sport to use their venue's, the promoter's need to educate the staduim managers of what is required to run a sucessful SX we are going to struggle to build this sport in to what we want it to be. I think most SX fans would have understood that less than 2 weeks after a major race like was at newcastle, that the turf was never going to recover in time. Lets hope GAS handles this well and keeps the damage to a minium or we might not have a 2011 SuperX season

how's about old love jodi mckay, she is trying to tear the Newy knights board a new asshole. she's a Doucher. vote her out. u think all this could of been handled if they used a bit more soil or a protective 'slab' of sorts am i wrong??
Seems a bit mismanaged to me from all ends. Now the Gov't want to throw money at the stadium? hmm poo ass. lol.

They put down plywood sheets before they put the dirt on top anyway and its like that for pretty close to a week, so of course the grass is going to die for 2-4 weeks, Like you said, it has just been bad managed on both sides by the look of itPosts: 41
