Global Action Sports has announced the 2010 Monster Energy Super X calendar for year three of the ambitious new Australasian Supercross Championship, this year’s series undergoing a host of revisions compared to previous seasons.

This season’s championship will see a range of exciting new venues introduced including a round at Energy Australia Stadium in Newcastle in front of Chad Reed’s fanatical hometown fans, as well as the first ever Super X round under lights in Melbourne, and further overseas expansion with two rounds in New Zealand – one in Auckland and one in Dunedin on the South Island in consecutive weeks.

“Supercross will be taken to a whole new level yet again in 2010 and I am so pleased that we are kicking off the 2010 series with our first ever round in Newcastle,” said Mal Peter, general manager of Super X. “With Chad racing in front of his home crowd, combined with the strength of the bike market and amount of fans there, it will be the perfect way to start the huge series we have planned.

“We have also expanded the series in New Zealand demonstrating its growth and development into a truly Australasian championship.”

Further announcements on exciting new initiatives and big name riders in both supercross and FMX who will be competing in the series will be made in coming weeks, according to the announcement made by GAS this morning.

It had previously been stated that both James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto would be making the trip Down Under for this season at selected rounds, while the King of Supercross Jeremy McGrath has made the trip for years one and two, however it’s uncomfirmed if he will return for 2010.
