ASBK: Medcalf out of Supersport with broken left wrist //

Yamaha Racing Team Supersport star Pat Medcalf suffered a broken wrist after crashing out of the lead during the opening Supersport race of the weekend yesterday at Phillip Island’s opening round of the Australian Superbike Championship.

Medcalf crashed on the 10th of 12 laps after taking the lead during a race of attrition, breaking his left wrist upon impact before sliding through the gravel trap and out of the race at high-speed over Lukey Heights.

“I’m gutted,” Medcalf said this morning, complete with a cast on his arm. “I made a mistake through Siberia so I tried to push hard through the Hayshed and over Lukey, but lost the front.”

It’s the second year in a row that Medcalf has left the World Superbike support races with an injury, crashing out last year at the Hayshed and injuring the ligaments in his shoulder.

Medcalf doesn’t expect to miss any races during the season due to his broken wrist, the break not requiring surgery to heal over the coming four weeks.
