New Zealand’s Hamilton round of the 2009 Monster Energy Super X Championship was one of the most technical of the season, not because of the track layout, but because of soft dirt and tricky ruts that lined the entire circuit. It was Monster Kawasaki’s Chad Reed who once again stole the show in proving he has adapted well to the KX450F in the closing stages of the season, pulling a comfortable lead in the series after CDR Rockstar Yamaha’s Jay Marmont suffered a host of crashes to finish 14th overall. Rounding out the podium for the night were Tye Simmonds for Motorex KTM and Dan Reardon for Woodstock Honda Thor Racing. The NZ SX Open was the Lites event for the evening, with Kiwi Michael Phillips winning the non-championship round while Matt Moss stepped up to the Open class for Rockstar Motul Suzuki.
